Has your AC been on vacation?

Air conditioning systems in Indiana have been on vacation most of this summer, but with the heat finally arriving in the last week, the party is over!
The hot and muggy conditions that have finally arrived will have your AC working hard keeping your family cool and comfortable. If you have put off having maintenance done, or even changing the filter now is the time to get it taken care of.  Keeping your home comfortable this week means that air conditioners will not only have to pump cool air into the home, but will remove the humid air from the home as well.  It’s kind of like a one two punch when it comes to keeping you comfortable. A cool home that is too humid feels kind of clammy, while a home that isn’t cool enough is just downright uncomfortable.
If you do find that your AC isn’t keeping up, the first thing we recommend is that you make sure you have a clean filter in place. Something as simple as a clogged air filter can result in the home not being cool enough…your system simply cannot breathe.  If, after changing the filter you find it is still not as cool as you like then it is time to shut it off and call the professionals.
Shut it off? Isn’t some cool air better than no cool air? Not from a service standpoint. Often an Air Conditioner that is not cooling will result in the indoor coil becoming frozen. Literally, the indoor coil can turn into a ball of ice.  If that happens our technicians have to leave and return when it is thawed out, so it is best to go ahead and let the thawing begin before we arrive.  Also letting a unit run that is frozen can cause further damage to the system, and may mean the difference between a simple repair and a major costly repair.
